Describe your research in about 200 words.
My research interests lie at the intersection of nanotechnology materials chemistry, and biomedical engineering, with the goal of developing innovative solutions for challenging health problems. My laboratory focuses on designing next-generation nanomaterials and biomolecular systems for targeted drug delivery, cancer immunotherapy, metabolic disorders, and pediatric diseases. We combine principles from chemistry, biology, and engineering to create smart nanoplatforms that can improve therapeutic efficacy while reducing toxicity. A major focus of our work is understanding how nanoscale properties influence biological interactions, using methods to guide the rational design of safer and more effective nanomedicines. We are also developing biomimetic materials inspired by natural processes, including porous silica-based nanomaterials and metal–biomolecular assemblies for gene and protein delivery. Through interdisciplinary collaborations, my research aims to translate fundamental discoveries in materials science into impactful biomedical technologies that address unmet clinical needs.
What’s the most interesting thing you have learned from a student?
One of the most interesting things I have learned from my students is how transformative early exposure to research can be. Some students begin engaging in scientific discovery very early in their lives, and that experience does more than teach them technical skills as it reshapes the way they think. Research cultivates curiosity and resilience, gradually forming their scientific identity and influencing how they approach problems throughout their lives.
