High-achieving women are less likely to get called back for job interviews
Women with higher GPAs were less likely to get called back for interviews, new research shows.
Natasha Quadlin recently published a study investigating the link between achievements, major and gender. She found that high-achieving men were around twice as likely to get called back as high-achieving women. This difference was the most clear in math, where male applicants were three times as likely to get called back than female applicants.
Additionally, employers looked for female employees who were deemed “likable,” whereas male employees were judged on their capability. Quadlin concludes that gender stereotypes affect hiring processes, punishing high-achieving women for being high-achieving.
