Describe your research in about 200 words.
I am a qualitative researcher interested in government corruption, public personnel management, and policy implementation. I have recently completed a multi-year collaborative research project on corruption consolidation in local governments in Mexico, Brasil, Chile and Puerto Rico. I am also involved in a long-term qualitative project that seeks to understand the opioid epidemic from the perspective of those closest and most impacted by it. I love researching informal public personnel practices– patronage, selling and inheritance of public positions, among others.
What’s the most interesting thing you have learned from a student?
I have learned how government can be so differently experienced by each of us.
