Describe your research in about 200 words.
I specialize in the intersections of race and artistic and cultural production in Luso-Brazilian/Latin-American context. I am interested in developing independent approaches to literary and cultural production, hence presenting alternatives to mainstream practices, in order to promote a better understanding of how literary and cultural traditions are formed, circulated, and followed amidst cultural-specific, political-specific, and social-specific surroundings.
What’s the most interesting thing you have learned from a student?
I have learned many things from my students over the years, so, if I am to select one, I think it must be: They all taught me how to be, or that I must be, a continuously improving professor, because, no matter how enthusiastic we are about innovative theoretical approaches to education, Students will always be our best teachers.
