STEM Shoutout: Dr. Emily Jones

Professor will gauge Old World animals’ impact on New Mexico

UNM Anthropology Professor Emily Jones is conducting research about the impact domesticated animals from the Eastern Hemisphere had on New Mexico.

Dr. Jones is working on a two-year NSF grant from the National Science Foundation. Granted on June 6, the award is estimated to be for $69,284.

“The NSF grant that I received…uses animal remains from a number of archaeological sites here in New Mexico – all dated between AD 1300 and 1945 – to look at the impact of the introduction of Old World domesticates (cattle, sheep, goats, chickens, etc) on both social and environmental networks in the Middle Rio Grande region,” Jones said.
