STEM Shoutout: Dr. Neven Y. Ali
New UNM faculty member at Nuclear Engineering Department
Dr. Neven Y. Ali began as a new faculty member in the fall of 2017 in the Department of Nuclear Engineering.
According to Ali, one of her goals at UNM is to develop new pedagogical approaches and technologies to be used in classrooms to facilitate learning. Ali is particularly interested in establishing online collaboration tools and distance-learning based courses, as well as collaborating with national labs.
“My research interests are on thermal-hydraulic of 4th generation nuclear reactors (light-water reactors and small modular reactors), advanced nuclear fuel manufacturing, and process imaging and visualization using nuclear technology.” Ali said.
Ali came to UNM from Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) where she obtained her MS and PhD degrees in Nuclear Engineering. She also has MS and BS degrees in software engineering. Professor Ali hopes her multifaceted background will benefit students throughout her teaching endeavors at UNM.
