Describe your research in about 200 words.

My research and creative interests cross boundaries between disciplines, musical styles, and traditions. As a music performer, creator, and educator, I approach my instrument, the guitar, as a vessel for exploring diverse cultural worlds and creative possibilities, leading to both intimate artistic expression and collaborations that connect people, nature, and culture. My main areas of interest include music performance, composition, musicology, and music education, informed by decolonial approaches, disability studies, and critical perspectives on politics, race, gender, and society.

What’s the most interesting thing you have learned from a student?

From many of my students, I have learned the value and beauty of being who you are while still embarking on processes of transformation. Processes that take time and work, but are worth the effort and patience, leading us to new ways of being, interacting with the world, and connecting with people.
