Describe your research in about 200 words.

My broad area of research is financial accounting using mostly archival research methods. My research focuses on disclosures and regulations, primarily in the context of debt markets. The purpose of my research is to explain how disclosures and regulations affect financial reports and decision making. My prior professional experience as a commercial loan officer and user of financial information provided me with the curiosity to examine issues associated with regulations and disclosures in credit markets. My research focuses on the design of debt contracts, regulatory disclosures, and accrual quality in the banking industry. In terms of methodologies, I am particularly interested in implementing causality techniques using archival data. I am also interested in other research methodologies to provide evidence on the same topic using different types of data.

What’s the most interesting thing you have learned from a student?

Students remind me that I am a student myself as well and that I learn with them. When students ask me questions, they help me think about a concept from different points of view, helping me understand a concept better and examine an issue more in-depth.
