UNM professor receives NSF grant to study experiences of expatriate Indian engineers

School of Public Administration professor Dr. Roli Varma received on March 8 of 2017, $140,186.00 as part of a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant for her research project “Keeping U.S. High-Tech Sector Diverse: Avoiding Reverse Brain Drain from the United States to India.”

Dr. Varma’s study is part of the NSF’s Science, Technology and Society Program. Along with her Co-PI, Dr. Meghna Sabharwal from the University of Texas at Dallas, the research has received a total of $217,155.00.

According to the research abstract, the two purposes of the project are: to understand why industrial engineers and scientists return to their home country, and to develop theoretical understanding of changes in the social construction of nationality with transnational migration

The study is funded by NSF until February of 2019.
