STEM Shoutout: Dr. Susan Bogus Halter

UNM professors collaborates with CNM on sustainable construction project

Dr. Susan Bogus Halter, an associate professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, is the principal investigator on an NSF grant, along with Dr. Vanessa Valentin of the same department. The project, “NM Green: Advancing Sustainable Construction Technology Education” is a collaboration between faculty at the University of New Mexico and the Central New Mexico Community College.

According to the research abstract, the project seeks to educate students in green construction technologies through a certificate program, as well as to lead students to participate in internships and dual-credit courses.

“The collaboration between UNM and CNM on this project has the potential to create added value for the students,” Dr. Bogus said.

According to the NSF website, the collaborative team will also develop outreach and mentoring efforts to expose underrepresented students to STEM fields. More than 400 students will be impacted.

The $884,573.00 grant is through April 2019.
