Describe your research in about 200 words.
The urgent demand for reliable, sustainable, and environmentally friendly renewable energy sources is a grand challenge for the fast-growing modern industry. Dr. Chen’s research seeks to resolve critical chemical processes for energy storage and conversion materials via advanced spectroscopic approaches. Specifically, the core objectives are understanding the underlying energy storage/conversion mechanisms, scientific reasons for desired/undesired materials properties, and how to tailor materials functionality via structural tuning. The obtained knowledge is expected to serve as guiding principles for a revolutionary development of energy materials and to address the outstanding challenges in energy storage and energy conversion applications.
What’s the most interesting thing you have learned from a student?
Critical thinking and creativity are grounded in the profound understanding of fundamental principles.
