Describe your research in about 200 words.

As Professor of Practice I’m devoted to creating a pathway for our students to graduate and succeed as journalists who help support a vibrant democracy. I teach multimedia writing and other skills courses, while running a successful fellowship and internship program that places students from UNM, NMSU and ENMU in local newsrooms around the state. California recently built a statewide program inspired by ours. And our success in procuring state funding for the project attracted national notice.

What’s the most interesting thing you have learned from a student?

My students have taught me that no achievement of my own is as rewarding to me as their cumulative success.
