Describe your research in about 200 words.

I conduct the UNM Symphony Orchestra, teach courses in conducting, and advocate for music education and general music literacy. My research explores multicultural approaches to performance practice studies in music, with a particular emphasis on the pedagogy of performance practice. I am also an active composer, and my own work is influenced by minimalism, contemporary popular music, and the Baroque.

What’s the most interesting thing you have learned from a student?

That, contrary to popular opinion, viola is actually the coolest instrument.
