New labs, classrooms and more in UNM’s remodeled Farris Engineering building

The renovated Farris Engineering Center has new classrooms, labs and offices for the students, faculty and staff of the School of Engineering. Much of the renovation focused on making the building more energy efficient, and the building is one of the first at UNM to have a more than 85 percent recycling rate for waste management, according to UNM.

Highlights of the $25.5 million project also include:

— An additional 10,000 square feet was added on the first floor of the building, increasing the size to 67,000 square feet.

— New highly efficient mechanical and electrical equipment means a 50 percent reduction in energy use by the building.

— New LED lighting was paired with the building’s use of natural light.

Farris is now home to Computer Science, Nuclear Engineering, and Biological Engineering and Chemical Engineering. Read more about the renovations here.
