Describe your research in about 200 words.

As a guest conductor and clinician, Dr. Moss is in high demand across North America and regularly gives band clinics at middle and high schools in her local area and beyond. She is also an accomplished bassoonist, actively performing during her degree programs and university appointments. Dr. Moss has presented at conferences across the United States on a variety of topics including Teaching for good Tone, Repertoire Selection, and Tips for the Non-Percussionist Band Director. She is a contributor to the esteemed Teaching Music through Performance in Band book series and has chapter contributions in two books on Women Band Directors set to be released this December.

 

What’s the most interesting thing you have learned from a student?

That having severely impaired vision does not have to prevent you from becoming an excellent musician. One of my former students had this disability and I was astonished at how he did not let this get in his way. He has found many tools and work arounds for reading music, and his aural skills were off the charts. He was an inspiration!
