STEM Shoutout: Dr. Susan Bogus Halter

UNM professor recently elected into the National Academy of Construction

Dr. Susan Bogus Halter, a professor from the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering, was recently elected as a member of the National Academy of Construction (NAC). 

According to the NAC website, “the mission of the National Academy Of Construction is to recognize and honor individuals for their distinguished contributions to the industry and to share this reservoir of expertise as a service to the nation.”

“I was very honored to initially be nominated for membership and then to be elected as a new member of NAC. It made me realize that my different contributions through research and service to the profession had been noticed by my peers. I look forward to continuing to serve the community in the future,” she said. 

Bogus Halter, who also is the Associated General Contractors (AGC) Endowed Chair, said her research interests lie in how to improve the way we design and construct infrastructure and building projects. 

“Much of my work has focused on evaluation of different methods of project delivery, but more recently, I have been studying more of the human resource and technology aspects of design and construction,” she said.

Currently, Bogus Halter said she is working on a project with the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT). 

“I just recently started a project with the NMDOT that is studying how they can best integrate technology into their construction processes,” she said. “This project is specifically looking at implementing an e-ticketing system for tracking materials deliveries on construction projects.”
