STEM Shoutout: Dr. Heather Canavan

Dr. Heather Canavan, an associate professor in both biomedical engineering and chemical and biological engineering at UNM, has been named a 2018 AVS (American Vacuum Society) fellow. She will be honored at the AVS award ceremony on October 24, 2018, at the 65th AVS International Symposium and Exhibition in California.

Canavan is a recipient of the honor because of her technical contributions in areas of interest to AVS. She was nominated by several of her peers and colleagues.

“I’m very pleased to have been awarded this recognition from my peers for our work on bioactive polymers and biomaterials. I intend to continue to pursue and present our research with the AVS for many years to come,” Canavan said. 

Canavan was also awarded a UNM 2017-2018 Outstanding Teacher of the Year award in May.
